Visiting home care

Standard visiting care

£25 per hour

The minimum visit is one hour. £25 is the final standard hourly rate shown for the booking, with no travel fee added.

One continuous 10-hour block

£20 per hour

This applies only when at least 10 consecutive hours are booked in one uninterrupted block on the same day.

Care assessment

Free

A care manager completes the assessment face to face in the person’s home, usually within 24 hours.

Minimum visiting-care booking: one hour.
£25 is the full standard hourly rate. For example, one continuous booking from 8am to 6pm is ten hours and costs £20 per hour. Separate shorter visits on different days do not qualify for this rate. There is no separate travel charge.
Clear example: one continuous booking from 8am to 6pm is 10 hours and is charged at £20 per hour. Separate shorter visits, even when they add up to 10 hours, are charged at £25 per hour.

Live-in care

One person

£1,350 per week

A carefully matched carer lives in the home and supports the agreed care plan.

Couple

£1,800 per week

Care is assessed around both people’s needs and the practical requirements of the household.

Food and travel

No allowance or travel fee

The family does not pay a separate food allowance. The carer needs access to the kitchen to prepare their own meals.

What a live-in carer needs in the home

  • A private bedroom in which the carer can sleep and keep personal belongings.
  • Access to a bathroom.
  • Access to the kitchen to prepare their own food.
  • Protected rest and sleep.
  • A safe working environment and the equipment identified by the care assessment.

Live-in care is not the same as one person remaining awake and working continuously for 24 hours. Regular night waking may require a waking-night or additional-care arrangement.

Overnight and specialist arrangements

Sleeping-night, waking-night, two-carer and specialist clinical arrangements are priced after the assessment because staffing and competency requirements differ. Any charge is explained and agreed before care begins.

Funding routes to explore

Depending on circumstances, families may wish to ask about Attendance Allowance, local-authority support, Direct Payments, NHS Continuing Healthcare and independent benefits advice. Caring Lane can explain the care cost but does not determine eligibility for public funding.

What you will know before care starts

The written proposal or care agreement will confirm the service, schedule, hourly or weekly price, any specialist or night-time arrangement, notice terms and who to contact when needs change. We do not add a travel charge.
